Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common problem. Gastroesophageal reflux is the passage of gastric contents into the esophagus. Most episodes are brief and asymptomatic. GERD is present when these reflux episodes are associated with symptoms or cause mucosal injury.
